Training Levels
From BrainImagingCenter
The rules about working around the MRI scanner as well as having an access key goes as follows:
Level 1: Observer - Anyone and everyone wishing to work around the
magnet at the DBIC must first watch the Safety Videos that is posted on
the DBIC wiki website and on the afs server (ask your PI how to
access this). Once you have done this you are permitted to be in
the magnetic environment as an observer only. You must be accompanied
by Terry Sackett (terry.sackett@dartmouth.edu) (the MR Technologist) or a fully trained MR user. You may
not help run the scanner, screen subjects or load subjects into the scanner.
ACCESS KEY NOT PERMITTED
Level 2: Scan Buddy - In order to become a scan buddy you must first
watch the Safety Videos and then attend a full safety class with Terry Sackett.
Once you have done this you are permitted to work in the magnetic
environment with Terry or a fully trained MR user's supervision. You may
act as a fully trained user's second during an experiment and offer help
in an emergency situation. You may provide supervised help in running
the scanner and loading subjects into the magnet. ACCESS KEY NOT PERMITTED
Level 3: Fully Trained User - In order to become a fully trained user
you must first have completed levels 1-2 of training. You must then gain as
much experience as you can observing and helping to run the scanner with
the assistance of Terry or another fully trained user until you
feel you are proficient in running the scanner on your own. This is a self
paced process.
It is your responsibility to find time to come down to the scan room during the
day with Terry
or in the evenings/weekends with another fully trained user to get the
experience you need
to complete your training. Once you feel you are proficient in all aspects of
scanning, you
will then be tested orally and practically on your scanning skills and knowledge
of
Emergency Procedures, Subject Screening Policies, rebooting the scanner, positioning and loading subjects into the scanner, scanning a subject, ending an exam, and transferring scan data to the server. Once you pass this test you are considered a fully trained user and will be given access to the scan room via your Dartmouth ID. ACCESS KEY GRANTED
